St. Patrick’s Day 2014 Full Moon Ritual

And St. Patrick got in the car and drove the snakes to the SLPS full moon ritual! The snakes of Ireland came to the SLPS full moon to honor the Moon Goddess and give a snaky eye to St. Patrick.

On a rare Monday ritual, Monday, March 5, 2014, at 9pm, the altar was decorated with a shamrock tablecloth made by SLPS adviser April Love, and seated on the sides of the Goddess were live shamrock plants. Other attributes adorned it such a post of gold and corned beef and cabbage.

The members of SLPS were cleansed, charged, and worked magic by the full moon. Thanks in the form of green macaroons were given to the Goddess for her continual blessings as Indian temple incense wafted about the room. St. Patrick descended to watch as SLPS celebrated their ancestral kin, the druids. Truly a great blessing this St. Patrick’s Day!

SLPS Exhibition Featured in University of Utah Paper the Daily Utah Chronicle

All the hard work has paid off! The Daily Utah Chronicle, the newspaper of the University of Utah has released a front page article for February 4, 2014 about SLPS exhibition “A Look at Paganism” at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the U. President Cureton was interviewed for the article on February 3, and it was published the next day. Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable Interfaith Month Imbolc 2014 Ritual: Return of the Light- Brigid was Pleased!

Thanks to everyone who came and participated in the Imbolc ceremony on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Dancing Cranes Imports at 6pm. SLPS helped kick off the 2014 Interfaith Month with Imbolc. Lakshmi stood in since Brigid arrived late. The table was decorated with a handmade table cloth by April Love in the late winter seasonal design. Flowers, cookies, sparkling apple cider, candles and more all decorated the altar. Since the ritual was squeezed into the small time space of an hour, some creative editing was necessary.

After reading Imbolc poetry, there was singing and dancing, cleansing and blessing, all before Brigid appeared. She stepped in for a visit through one of the mediums and gave spiritual advice to everyone through the tarot. Afterwards, everyone came forward to received blessings from her through sacred fire.

The energy was sent out into the universe at the close and the rest was returned to the living Earth.

Forgiveness Film Friday

President Daniel Cureton was recently interviewed by Metamora Films for an upcoming movie about forgiveness. Matthew Duhamel had a pleasant question and answer on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Dancing Cranes Imports. The questions covered aspects of what is forgiveness in Paganism (and more specifically Wicca), is there any divine mandate, and how do pagans view those who are commanded to forgive in the three Abrahamic religions. Look for the upcoming video release from the company around August-October 2014.

Plazafest II 2014

President Daniel Cureton and SLPS adviser April Love had a great time tabling at Plazafest II this past week on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 11am-2pm in the University of Utah’s Student Union Ballroom. With snow falling outside, the usual free tarot helped attract interested persons and snow dodgers to the group and get acquainted with a few pagans. Some of the passersby that stopped for a reading had had positive experiences with SLPS free tarot from previous semesters and were return patrons! A few brochures flew off the table and SLPS hopes to see those folks at the next Witches’ Tea!

Rock the U Marathon a Fun Time

On March 23, 2013, SLPS read tarot for free for the students at the Rock the U Marathon for Cancer Awareness. Daniel Cureton, April Love, and Lauren Holman brought their tarot decks for a few hours, and over the load music in the Union Ballroom at the Student Union Building at the University of Utah, read the card for about 30 people. SLPS enjoys this type of service, as it’s free for the students, gives everyone practice, and allows them to make more connections with people without considering money. Check out the pics below!

July 4th/Columbia Gratitude Ceremony

Gratitude… one spell that isn’t seen in many books. Thanksgiving is one of the most humbling and best ways to dive deep into spiritual workings. UUPS always makes it a point to honor (there are lots of honoring spells) and give thanks to deities whose days pass throughout the year. President Daniel Cureton lead the ceremony.

This time it was Columbia, the goddess of America. A few faithful UUPS members met by moon light under a pine tree on Saturday, July 2, 2011 and gave an offering of traditional American food: hot dogs and tater-tots with milk. On the altar were quarter candles and patriotic themed flowers for the Goddess.

Everyone felt humbled and thankful afterward as the presence of Columbia descended and accepted these offerings.

Midsummer Festival… A Holly for All

Holly and Oak Kings… a fight to the death.. almost. UUPS celebrated the two great Kings of the Year. The Oak King and the Holly King. This Midsummer festival brought us the esteemed opportunity to reenact the great battle of the two kings, the battle that twice a year ensures one will rule while the other sits at the altar of life.  This time, the Holly King was again crowned ruler for the coming winter months. UUPS sang, danced, beat drums and rang bells in honor of the Holly King. A midsummer fire allowed all present to burn away a bad habit, problem, situation or other form of negative energy in their lives.  Many felt uplifted, inspired and joyful. All present had the opportunity to travel down a garden path in a guided meditation to meet and speak with the Holy Holly King himself. The final union of the Holy Holly King and Queen brought a close to the ceremony and the opening of the Midsummer feast. Mainly a garden dinner, full of salads, cabbage, mushroom, pasta and noodles, the occasional yard bird was seen wandering around before quickly vanishing into the carnivorous traps of Holly King himself.  Blessed Be all! Until we merry meet again!

Marching in Utah Pride Festival 2011 Parade

This year has showered man opportunities among us in the LGBTQ community. As a member of the Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition, we are allowed to march in the Sunday morning parade! Come dressed in robes, hats and staffs and be ready to carry our banner.

Time: Line up at 8:30 am

Location: 300 E 400 S

We need people who can march to come and hold the banner, three people would be nice!
