Some magic and precision was needed after Thanksgiving. The members of SLPS met under the Full moon Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 8pm to call upon the maiden goddess Artemis, to lend them strength, clarity, and precision to achieve their goals. The full moon is a great time to work powerful rites of any type of magic, especially when they are in need.

Some folks take into account the astrological position of the moon in the signs, the type of seasonal moon, time of day, day of the week and month. All of which can be used to forward and empower the spells performed. This particular moon helped a few members re-empower themselves and ask for clarity to find their goals.

After the ceremony, a friendly game of monopoly was played, with Shy Fox winning with just two sets of property! Watch for those Scorpios, they will win in the end!

SLPS was invited to participate in the Utah Faith Fair, which was a part of the Utah Rally for Love, Equality, Family, and Acceptance. The rally and fair took place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 11am to 1pm at the Utah State Capitol building. Organized by Tim VanZeban, the fair was part of the community response to the new policy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on children, which states that children of same-sex couples and marriages are not allowed to be baptized unless they disavow their parents.

The fair was successful, with a handful of religious organizations, community groups, and county services occupying the capitol building rotunda from 11-1, while the rally took place on the steps of the capitol. The rally gathered about 100, and it appeared around 150 people resigned their membership using the PostMormon table, who would be delivering the resignations for those that resigned. Others browsed the groups looking at support or getting details on their options being post Mormon. SLPS offered daily advice through a one card pull of the Medieval Cat Tarot, giving positive messages and uplifting confidence to those who had resigned their LDS membership.

Ever heard of a furry? Seen some people in animal suits walking around? Unfamiliar with the term otherkin? You may have a had a furry encounter! SLPS vended at the 2015 Furry Unlocked convention at the Doubletree Suites Hotel in Salt Lake City, Friday October 30- Sunday November 1. It was an excellent venue in which to get familiar with the furry community of Utah and to perform outreach. Many of the furrers showed surprised, and the admin came to the table announcing how surprised they were that SLPS had event contacted them, much less wanted to vend at their convention and do a panel! SLPS told them they we are a supportive and inclusive group, that even in the furry community we can find a way to outreach. SLPS did $10 furry tarot and paw readings, using the Tarot of the Animal Lords deck by Lo Scarabeo and Angelo Giannini which uses anthorpomorphized animal in costumes.

The business was slower, but that’s what happens at small conventions with less than 1,000 people. The panel “Animal Totems for Furries” on Saturday, October 31 at 2pm was very successful. SLPS was placed upstairs in a cozy room with 15 people who showed. The atmosphere was a back and forth dialogue about animal totems, furries, books, card decks, and strategies for furries to access and encounter their totems.

It was a wonderful experience, a successful panel, and an educational outreach for SLPS members who were unfamiliar with the community. SLPS looks forward to the warm and welcoming audience it found at Furry Unlocked in 2015 at the 2016 convention!

The Wheel turned and the time of the Ancestors was upon us! In the SLPS tradition, we do not only work with them at Samhain (pronounced Souw Win, not Sam Hane), but throughout the year. Even so, Samhain is THE time for the kindred and ancestral workings.

SLPS performed their personal coven rite on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 8pm. This was necessary as SLPS also was to perform a public rite. Private group workings as well as personal work is an important component as it allows for self work and the members to bond together, express higher emotions, and be comfortable instead of having onlookers or worrying about strangers energies.

The right on October 24 went splendidly, with a homemade death by chocolate cake being the main cake, and bloody Mary’s for the wine. Osiris and Arianrhod were invoked as the patrons of the rite. The ancestors were called in with the song “Samhain by Lisa Thiel on her album Circle of the Seasons. To calm the energies, the song “Shanti (Peace Out)” by MC Yogi on his album Elephant Power was played to bring everyone back and dismiss the dead. Feastings afterwards were spiced apple cider and Puerto Rican spaghetti.

SLPS was asked to conduct a public rite on Halloween for the Pagan shop As Above So Below in Roy, UT. SLPS gladly accepted. With a count of 45 people, the rite proceeded at 8:30. The archangels invoked in the quarters, the barriers thrown up, the song “Samhain by Lisa Thiel was played after the ancestors were invoked to join the circle under the watch oft he High Priest Muad’Dib and High Priestess Woman Between the Wolves. Deities present were Cerridween, Arianrhod, Hades, and Osiris. HP Muad’Dib performed a druid rite to Cerridwen, the ancestors, and the fall season. A toast with the coven chalice full of wine was passed around the room before the closing and pot luck feastings.
