SLPS was invited to participate in the Utah Faith Fair, which was a part of the Utah Rally for Love, Equality, Family, and Acceptance. The rally and fair took place on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 11am to 1pm at the Utah State Capitol building. Organized by Tim VanZeban, the fair was part of the community response to the new policy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on children, which states that children of same-sex couples and marriages are not allowed to be baptized unless they disavow their parents.

The fair was successful, with a handful of religious organizations, community groups, and county services occupying the capitol building rotunda from 11-1, while the rally took place on the steps of the capitol. The rally gathered about 100, and it appeared around 150 people resigned their membership using the PostMormon table, who would be delivering the resignations for those that resigned. Others browsed the groups looking at support or getting details on their options being post Mormon. SLPS offered daily advice through a one card pull of the Medieval Cat Tarot, giving positive messages and uplifting confidence to those who had resigned their LDS membership.

SLPS had a great time helping Church of the Sacred Circle at their 2015 Spring psychic fair “Rite of Spring” on Saturday, May 8, 2015 from 4-8 pm. Even though it was a rainy and overcast day, the fair was busy with patrons coming for tarot, angel, astrological, and palm readings. Some came for healing, others to find their destiny, with question about school, work, and love. President Daniel Cureton had a great time reading palms and using his Deviant Moon Tarot.

Thanks to everyone whom participated, donated, and helped make the clothing donation drive a success. The donation period ended December 5, 2014. The items were counted December 6, 2014 by President Daniel Cureton, VP Ashton Longhurst, and two members. The total number of items to be donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah is 319!!! After about two hours, all the unprocessed items fit neatly into 20 white bags to be picked up by the charity. We applaud all those who donated for giving back to the community and to those in need. You can find the official inventory list here.

The 14th annual LGBT Gay-la and Silent Auction was held on October 2, 2014 at  6pm at the Wagner Jewish Community Center at the University of Utah. SLPS donated a $75 Tarot gift certificate as part of the auction which sold for $10. We here at SLPS are glad to help the Silent Auction as the money raised from both events goes to the scholarship and emergency fund. Each year several students receive approximately $2,000 each in scholarships from the LGBT Resource Center. The reserve one time emergency fund is avaliabe to students in exceptional financial need and difficulty and is approximate $500 each. SLPS looks forward to donating again at the 2015 Gay-la and Silent Auction.

Twice a year SLPS has an opportunity to do service. This fall brought it around on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at one of the bi-annual psychic fairs called “Fall Wonders” at the Church of the Sacred Circle in West Valley. The large yurt is accommodating to up to ten readers and people at a time. A fire was going in the pit, and a pagan vendor was selling geodes and kambucha on the side. Sergey Khrushchev, Daniel Cureton and April Love worked as readers, donating the money earned to the Church. The fair went from 12-8 and had waves of customers coming in, seeking advice with the cards and oracles, as well as getting their astrological carts read by Heron Herodia, one of the leaders of CSC at whose back yard the yurt sits on.

SLPS had a great time helping the new Utah Valley University Pagan Association get on its feet. President Daniel Cureton read tarot at the club rush on Thursday, September 11, 2013. Sitting with the interfaith section and next to the ROTC, many soldiers came for readings, as well as the regular students at the rush. President Sergey Khrushchev was pleased with the amount of attention the free tarot drew, as it helped get the word out that UVUPA is up and going!

SLPS did it’s duty, serving the community. Twice a year rolls around the bi-annual fund raiser for the Church of the Sacred Circle. This time called “Spring Fling”, SLPS read the tarot for about 20 people on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Daniel Cureton, Lauren Holman, and Sergey Khrushchev showed up in time to read the cards, get some new stones from the vendors, and sit by the fire in the new COSC fire pit. SLPS enjoys giving time and service to COSC, a close friend of the society!
