SLPS met on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 9pm to honor the goddess of America, Columbia. The altar was decorated with Independence Day decorations (for July 4th). Pomegranate wine and apricots off one of the society trees were offered. Stars and Stripes Forever, one of the most patriotic American marches by John Philip Sousa was played as members danced around the altar with flags and pinwheels. We asked the Goddess to watch over the USA, guide the political leaders to be favorable for civil liberties, and offered thanks to the Native Americans who continue to grant the white people favorable passage on their lands (i.e, the USA).

July 4th brings a unique opportunity to honor one of the lesser worshiped goddesses, Columbia-Libertas of the Roman pantheon who rules over liberty and justice. Hailed as the patron of America (U.S.), she watches quietly and stately at the bay of New York City. Her image has been on currency of the United States for well over two centuries. She has always welcome the tired, the poor, the hungry, and weak, and the oppressed, who yearn to be free. A symbol and beacon of freedom, she welcomes and bids all to rest in her presence.

The altar was decorated in traditional patriotic memorabilia. SLPS honored the Goddess on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 8pm. The offerings included traditional July 4th food, hot dogs. Other traditional dishes at this time are hamburgers, baked beans, grilled chicken, potatoes salad, and green jello to name a few. Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa was the song of choice for the music.

The offerings were accepted and petitioned to continue her blessings on the USA.

Gratitude… one spell that isn’t seen in many books. Thanksgiving is one of the most humbling and best ways to dive deep into spiritual workings. UUPS always makes it a point to honor (there are lots of honoring spells) and give thanks to deities whose days pass throughout the year. President Muad’Dib lead the ceremony.

This time it was Columbia, the goddess of America. A few faithful UUPS members met by moon light under a pine tree on Saturday, July 2, 2011 and gave an offering of traditional American food: hot dogs and tater-tots with milk. On the altar were quarter candles and patriotic themed flowers for the Goddess.

Everyone felt humbled and thankful afterward as the presence of Columbia descended and accepted these offerings.
