After only a few months as the secretary of SLPS, Rena Fairbrother has decided to step down as the society secretary. Citing personal family issues and schooling, she recently revealed that she will not be able to perform her duties and has asked for her release. She was let go on May 25, 2013.

Rena did perform her duties well while in the office. Staring on February 12, 2013, she was the person who undertook and completed the society’s calendar project giving us the wonderful 2013 calendars with photos and events. She projected new ideas, ways, and projects at the meetings and was an innovative thinker. SLPS will miss her and wishes her well in life and hopes that she will return in the future to be part of the society again.

Another successful opportunity to let the masses know about SLPS and give spiritual service to students, staff, faculty and people at the University of Utah has been recently completed! On Friday, April 19, 2013 from 10am-2pm, President Daniel Cureton and SLPS member Kandrie Mylorie tabled on the lawn of the Student Union building at the U for the Grand Kerfuffle event.

Produced by ASUU (Associated Students of the University of Utah), the Kerfuffle is an evening concert with various bands, arts, and musicians that perform for the masses of students.

Kandrie Mylorie read her famous Witch’s Runes while President Cureton used his Deviant Moon Tarot. “We had around 50 people stop by in the four hours we were there. We met some really fantastic people” said President Cureton.

Be sure to look for other times and locations that SLPS will be offering free readings and come check it out!

All was a hit at this year’s birthday party for President Daniel Cureton, who turned 27 on April 12th. The party was held Saturday, April 13, at  7pm. The traditional borsch soup was made by Sergey Khrushchev, the tradition being now in its 4th year.

With a small group of friends, the people ate, drank, sang and enjoyed each other’s company. When it was time for the cake, the excitement grew over the rumors that it was April Love’s infamous strawberry cake, with real purred strawberries inside along with a strawberry frosting!

Indeed so! The cake didn’t last long. Buster Boyd can be seen left with a look of glee and pleasure right before he devoured his large slice of the strawberry cake.

President Cureton commented “You should always keep your birthday candles if you can because they make good wishing magic! I love birthdays! No bowling for me, dinner parties are better!”.

Thanks to all who came and participated in Ostara 2013 on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 6pm. The Ritual started around 8:30 pm due to printer issues and no outlines of the ritual being available till then. Plenty of socializing and pre-ritual fun took place before President Cureton rung the great society bell to call to order the ritual.

With the usual openings and calling of the quarters, the Ostara celebrations began. With the altar decorated in spring fashion with egg that had been dyed before hand by president Curetn and SLPS member Rena Fairbrother, ribbon and a special custom Ostara plaque, the entering the circle happened after the cleansing of the temple space. The ritual took place in doors this year because of the weather temperatures being in the 30s. As the people entered the space, they were cleansed and consecrated to work magic and give honoring to the Great Goddess.

The story of Ostara was told and the members and guests of SLPS were taken to meet the Goddess in her woodland dwelling where she was playing  a beautiful lap harp. She gave each person advice and sent them along their way. Next poetry, music, dance, flowers, eggs, stones and food were offered to the Goddess as gifts of gratitude and love for the returning of light and springtime. Music was provided by president Cureton on violin. Everyone in turn received a  wildflower bulb to plant to help seed the barren Earth back to life. Each person also received a small half inch Venus of Willendorf statue as a Goddess charm. Special organic gluten free apple cinnamon muffins were made by SLPS’s newest member Cheyanne O., The muffins quickly disappeared and the members of SLPS have given her the task of making more for Beltane!

Personal libations to the Goddess came after a small break. President Cureton performed a druid spring rite and then the ritual came to a close. The feasting included dishes such as roasted eggs, potato salad and spare ribs! Check out the photos below.

SLPS had a wonderful time reading tarot for all the dancers at the 12th Annual Springfest- Bellydance Festival by Thia on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Held every spring at the Utah State Fair Grounds, it’s a full day of dance, shows, vendors, food, and great music. As the evening goes on, the music get’s louder, since the better troupes and shows wait to dance in the evening. SLPS stayed till around 8pm before heading out. Many folks received spiritual advice and healing messages from the tarot.

Hello to all,

After some recent events that transpired over the last full moon, a group vote has changed that all rituals in the future to be closed to public and invitation only. This is a precautionary measure to protect those in circle as well as those who are not yet ready to perform and work magic.

What will happen is that all those whom are interested in attending ritual should come to tea a few times on Sundays so that SLPS gets to know you, your energy, intent and your background. The rituals take place at a private residence so this precautionary note helps also keep unwanted energies and astral travelers down to a minimum.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause! There will still be stories, photos and docs posted of everything and all other events are open to public, so all desiring may still follow along and keep up to date on the current activities of SLPS
