The members of SLPS met on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 3pm to celebrate the union of the Lord and Lady in matrimony and at the Beltane wedding. The Maypole was unwoven from 2014 and set up on the lawn. Flowers from the garden adorned the altar as well as the great rite statue and queer gods painting.

Poetry honoring the Gods was read. The great rite was performed, the uniting of the blade and chalice, by the high priest and high priestess, offering up white zinfandel wine. Beltane was played by Lisa Thiel on her album Circle of the Seasons as the members danced and wove the ribbons on 2016’s pole. As the members drank wine and relaxed, two morning doves flew into the trees, issuing calls to the members and giving the sign that the Lord and Lady was present.

The feasting included homemade drunken German Chocolate cake, beef stroganov, and noodles.

Daniel Cureton went down to read horror tarot readings in the dealer room and participate on various panels. “It was slow, but a good convention. People from out of state and Canada.” said president Cureton. Many authors like Paul Genesse, David Farland, David J. West, and Kevin J. Anderson and others were there doing panels and selling their books. With the panels, there were gaming times, short films, an art show, and other activities. Some of the vendors included Gypsy Moon Emporium of Salt Lake, the League of Utah Writers, Zombie Nation, Pioneer Books of Provo, and Barnes and Noble.

SLPS enjoyed a fun evening reading free Celtic tarot for the University of Utah students at their bi-annual Crimson Nights event on Friday, March 25, 2016 from 10-2am. The line for readings didn’t end till about 1:30 am, and a few trickled in till 2. Some even asked for palm readings. Many of the students had never had a reading, which is usually the case. Though SLPS has been reading at Crimson Nights for three years, very few are repeat patrons.

Since 2015’s garden was highly successful, the society will be planting a garden for 2016. This year the space with be expanded to included more room for pumpkins, asparagus, garlic, and other heirloom plants of choice by the society members.

SLPS president Daniel Cureton and vice president Ashton Longhurst worked in the evening on Sunday, March 20, 2016 to clean and clear the old dead plants and evaluate the space. Surprisingly, a number of plants survived the winter! A few of the onions, one parsley, oregano, both cabbage plants, and all of the collard greens!

The old dead leaves were plucked off the cabbage and collards and the space cleaned for what is to come. Because some plants went to seed, the society expects to have a few self starters for dill and tomatillo.
