The Wheel turned and the time of the Ancestors was upon us! In the SLPS tradition, we do not only work with them at Samhain (pronounced Souw Win, not Sam Hane), but throughout the year. Even so, Samhain is THE time for the kindred and ancestral workings.
SLPS performed their personal coven rite on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 8pm. This was necessary as SLPS also was to perform a public rite. Private group workings as well as personal work is an important component as it allows for self work and the members to bond together, express higher emotions, and be comfortable instead of having onlookers or worrying about strangers energies.
The right on October 24 went splendidly, with a homemade death by chocolate cake being the main cake, and bloody Mary’s for the wine. Osiris and Arianrhod were invoked as the patrons of the rite. The ancestors were called in with the song Samhain by Lisa Thiel on her album “Circle of the Seasons”. To calm the energies, the song Shanti (Peace Out) by MC Yogi on his album Elephant Power was played to bring everyone back and dismiss the dead. Feastings afterwards were spiced apple cider and Puerto Rican spaghetti.
SLPS was asked to conduct a public rite on Halloween for the Pagan shop As Above So Below in Roy, UT. SLPS gladly accepted. With a count of 45 people, the rite proceeded at 8:30. The archangels invoked in the quarters, the barriers thrown up, the song Samhain by Lisa Thiel was played after the ancestors were invoked to join the circle under the watch oft he High Priest Daniel Cureton and High Priestess April Love. Deities present were Cerridween, Arianrhod, Hades, and Osiris. HP Daniel Cureton performed a druid rite to Cerridwen, the ancestors, and the fall season. A toast with the coven chalice full of wine was passed around the room before the closing and pot luck feastings.

SLPS meeting under sacred pine on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 9pm to celebrate the Fall Equinox. The crickets were in unison, the breeze calm as the altar was dedicated and the candles lit. Ganesh and Bast joined the circle of the ancestors and took in the offerings of pears, watermelon, juice and cookies. Mabon being the second harvest, the fruits were pulled from the Society Garden.
The ritual included music by Lisa Thiel, “Mabon” off the album Circle of the Seasons. Spoken word and poetry were performed in honor of the seaons. Bast and Ganesh came down and spoke to the attendees and accepted the food. He will open the way for individuals to succeed in their inner workings. Each person chose a habit to banish in the Mabon fire.
The feast afterwards with the Gods was beef and barely stew with oreo bards for dessert. A bowl was left out for the Gods to enjoy.

Midsummer 2015-The Gods were Honored

Midsummer, also known as Litha, was celebrated on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 8pm. The sun was setting in the west, but plenty of light abound as the longest day of the year doesn’t see a sun set till 9:30 pm. The ritual began with the song “Midsummer” by Heather Alexander.
The Gods and Goddesses were honored as Midsummer poetry was read. Each person set a goal to accomplish by Lughnasadh. The Holly King overtook the Oak King as the ruler of the next six months. This is because the sun reaches its zenith on Midsummer. Thus the power of the Oak King grew strong as all life returned after Yule. Now, as the days grow shorter and nights longer, life will peak and then begin to wane before dying and going to sleep during winter. This is the period of rule of the Holly King and natural dominance over the Oak King at Summer Solstice. The inverse is true at Yule, when the Oak King takes over to rule again.
Offerings included strawberry lemonade and fruits of the season. All were blessed of the Gods and feasted on bratwurst by a Midsummer fire.
