A few members and guests of SLPS gathered last night Friday, March 21, 2014 to prepare the eggs for Ostara 2014. At first the brown eggs appeared to present a challenge of if the dye would stick, but it sure did! Some beautiful eggs are now waiting to be presented to the Goddess and eaten in sacred Ostara egg salad! There was even a black egg! The other plastic eggs hold wildflower seeds read to be sown into the barren Earth in symbol of the returning life of spring time.

The Society exhibit “A Look at Paganism: Beliefs and Culture of the Neopagan Community” that was held at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the University of Utah ran from January 17- March 16, 2014. It was an enormous success! All the hard work paid off. 8 people came together donating items or approving of their use for display in the wall cases at the library. It was headed, organized, and proposed to the exhibition committee by President Muad’Dib. All the explanatory cards were also written by President Muad’Dib. Sections included (As pictured in level one) music, art, literature, crafts, (as pictured in level 2) films, Pagan deities, Magical Arts and Sciences (top), Jewelry (bottom), ritual items and elementals.
Louise Poulton of the exhibition committee and Rare Book Division of Special Collections said the application was “very well written and put together.” A few of the members of the committee said they were very impressed with the display and that it received only positive feedback. Many students and guests stopped to look at the different displays and contemplate Paganism. It was one of the highest trafficked exhibitions to date!
The reserve desk on level two, which is next door to the display cases also reported many people stopping to look at the displays. SLPS is so happy that it succeed that there is a plan in the works to have the exhibition go to other schools and universities to teach people about Paganism. Currently Salt Lake Community College Library and the library at Utah Valley University are the best places. Here are photos from the exhibition.

And St. Patrick got in the car and drove the snakes to the SLPS full moon ritual! The snakes of Ireland came to the SLPS full moon to honor the Moon Goddess and give a snaky eye to St. Patrick.
On a rare Monday ritual, Monday, March 5, 2014, at 9pm, the altar was decorated with a shamrock tablecloth made by SLPS adviser April Love, and seated on the sides of the Goddess were live shamrock plants. Other attributes adorned it such a post of gold and corned beef and cabbage.
The members of SLPS were cleansed, charged, and worked magic by the full moon. Thanks in the form of green macaroons were given to the Goddess for her continual blessings as Indian temple incense wafted about the room. St. Patrick descended to watch as SLPS celebrated their ancestral kin, the druids. Truly a great blessing this St. Patrick’s Day!

The wheel has turned and it’s time to get the candles and eggs out for the Germanic Goddess Ostara, one of spring and the equinox! This year’s Ostara will be performed in the Wiccan fashion by President Cureton. Ritual will be Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 6pm with feasting around 7:30pm. We will be dying eggs the day before on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 7pm in preparation for Ostara. You can find the ritual outline here! It will be held outside so dress warmly for early spring weather! Only those who came to Witches’ Tea may attend since this is a private ritual.

The Daily Utah Chronicle, the newspaper of the University of Utah has released a front page article for February 4, 2014 about SLPS exhibition “A Look at Paganism” at the J. Willard Marriott Library at the U. President Cureton was interviewed for the article on February 3, and it was published the next day. Thanks to everyone who came and participated in the Imbolc ceremony on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Dancing Cranes Imports at 6pm. SLPS helped kick off the 2014 Interfaith Month with Imbolc. Lakshmi stood in since Brigid arrived late. The table was decorated with a handmade table cloth by April Love in the late winter seasonal design. Flowers, cookies, sparkling apple cider, candles and more all decorated the altar. Since the ritual was squeezed into the small time space of an hour, some creative editing was necessary.
After reading Imbolc poetry, there was singing and dancing, cleansing and blessing, all before Brigid appeared. She stepped in for a visit through one of the mediums and gave spiritual advice to everyone through the tarot. Afterwards, everyone came forward to received blessings from her through sacred fire.
The energy was sent out into the universe at the close and the rest was returned to the living Earth.

For all those who don’t know, SLPS will be hosting a public ritual, the first sabbat of the year, on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 6pm at Dancing Cranes Imports located at 673 E Simpson Ave (2240 S.), Salt Lake City, UT 84106. Dancing Cranes is accessible on public transit on the 700 E S-line stop on the Sugar House Street Car Trolley. This celebration will welcome back the light of the sun and bring an end to the dark times of the year. Known as Candlemas to Catholics, this is the time of year when the Lady takes over from the Lord and is honored in the form of the Celtic Goddess Brigid (Saint Brigid) at Imbolc. Brigid is over poetry and blacksmithing, and will be visiting the attendees to give them guidance for the upcoming spring season. Join in if you can, it’s free! President Daniel Cureton and SLPS adviser April Love had a great time tabling at Plazafest II this past week on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 11am-2pm in the University of Utah’s Student Union Ballroom. With snow falling outside, the usual free tarot helped attract interested persons and snow dodgers to the group and get acquainted with a few pagans. Some of the passersby that stopped for a reading had had positive experiences with SLPS free tarot from previous semesters and were return patrons! A few brochures flew off the table and SLPS hopes to see those folks at the next Witches’ Tea!

Thanks to all who came and made the Yule Ritual and Feast a brilliant success. On Saturday, December 21, 2013, a few members and guests of SLPS gathered and welcomed back the Yule King from the world of the ancestors. Lauren Holman playing the Goddess gave birth to Sergey Khrushchev as Cernunnos. All knelt and honored the returned Lord. This time of year is when the sun begins his ascent and starts to increase in light, and when the Oak King reigns again till Midsummer. President Daniel Cureton performed a druid rite for Yule and after a beautiful poetry reading, gave the cakes and wine offerings to the Oak King and Goddess and asked blessing for the new year as the light returns.
The feasting included rotisserie chicken, green beans and quinoa, potato salad and fruitcake. Check out the photos below!
