Hi folks,
Not much went on this month, with the new year and new semester. I hope all have settle down back into old routines, new routines and school studies.
I hope to see you all later at the Imbolc and New moon!
We have submitted our application for the grass roots section of the Utah PRIDE Festival on June 3. We are waiting to hear back for a spot. We will need volunteers though! Please send us an email if you will be available in June to help man the booth over the three day period. We are planning how long shifts will be right now.
We hope all of you can make it to the Imbolc Ritual in Cottonwood heights. Please call Daniel C if you get lost and need directions. 801 709 4632.

This Past December 18 brought the wonderful opportunity for UUPS to work with its newly formed offshoot group WANDS of Westminster College. A neo shamanic rite was performed by their leader, Christiaan under snow and full moon! A few members from both groups gathered on the south sound of the college at the amphitheater by a running rive to give honor and praise to father sky and mother earth. The crowning salute came with a drawn sword and refreshments of apple cider. UUPS can’t wait to work again with WANDS! Hail!

Hi folks,
once again, with the turn of the month, the turning of the great wheel, we come to the Yule season. The God is soon to be reborn by the Goddess!. This month has slowed down, we are in the planning stages for the upcoming year. We are taking a big breath in this month and relaxing.
Student Groups:
We are working with SLCC to form a group there. We are going over the paper work and examing what exactly needs to happen. If anyone is interested, please email UUPS!
Book of the Month:
We have had an ongoing book of the month since last fall. This months book is
Pagan Christmas: The Plants, Spirits, and Rituals at the Origins of Yuletide by Christian Rätsch and Claudia Müller-Ebeling.
If anyone is without a place to go for Christmas, they may come to my house on Friday and enjoy some dinner and festivities! Please send me an email through UUPS
Bright Blessings
Daniel C

This December 1st 2010 brought UUPS the opportunity to work closely with the University of Utah LGBTQ Resource center to give time to the World Aids Day. UUPS spent two hours tabling in the student union passing out information. We are proud to be allies with our LGBTQ friends and family members! Although not enough hours, its a start to a working relationship for future volunteering opportunities with the LGBTQ Resource Center and other groups and organizations under the LGBTQ/AIDS Banner.

Recently someone made a post on the group wall about members practicing black magic and hired services. This person was not an official member nor and officer/adviser and had no authority to speak officially for the stand point and philosophy of UUPS on the subject of members who practice black magic and/or hired services. We do not endorse any magical path and non magical path officially, but keep ourselves inclusive to all paths. We tend to focus on the lighter pagan paths, and not the darker or even black pagan paths in our group, as we feel these are the paths with the most interest, and benefit the members the most. We have not ruled out the possibility of having a class on black magic, or even viewing a ritual. Our Motto is “Understanding Through Education, Education Through Experience.” This includes paths that many people may see as not so beneficial and/ or controversial. We believe that a study of all paths leads a person to be a more educated, understanding, and well rounded individual. We do go as far as saying that we will not be practicing black magic formally, or on a regular or seldom basis, as this is not the focus of our group. We ask everyone to remember that at the core heart of UUPS, we are a student group, that is regulated by the University of Utah. We do encourage people to practice their magical traditions at home, at their work, school and where ever else they feel inclined to do so. We do not ban persons who are involved in black magic, or hired services, seeing that hired services is another very debated topic within the Pagan World, we leave it up to each person to decided whether or not hired services is something they believe is beneficial or not. What persons do in their own time when they are not with UUPS is their business, and we do not attempt to dive into the personal affairs of the members of UUPS, even if rumors circulate. UUPS will only take action when an individual and/or person and/or group of persons is being detrimental, destructive, intimidating, harassing, and every other form of ill treatment, to the safe and well being of the members of UUPS, Such persons will be taken aside and spoken to and UUPS will try to find a resolution to the presented problem where all parties involved can feel a reasonable and safe solution has been met. The last course of action UUPS will take is an official ban on a person and/ or group of persons from the group.. Every person is welcome to attend any function, ritual, activity, dinner and so on of UUPS as long as they abide by the rules of maintaining an inclusive, safe atmosphere where everyone can come together and benefit from the activities, share ideas, and go home a brighter, more confident individual, even if a person is involved in activities deemed as controversial such as hired services and black magic. UUPS is here for the benefit of the University of Utah, the larger community of Salt Lake City, the State of Utah, the Nation, world, galaxy and universe (and other dimensions!). We invite everyone to join in and feel welcome!

This past Friday, November 19, 2010, a few of the dedicated Harry Potter fans who are members of UUPS met at the Gateway theater in SLC, Ut to attend the premier of Part I of the Deathly Hallows. What an amazing event! UUPS members were not the only persons dressed to the T in proper wizarding regalia… a number of muggles turned up in hats and robes to show their support. Member Amber Hafen said “I was shocked and moved and can’t wait for the second one. The saddest part was when Dobby died. I couldn’t believe it! I was going ‘NOOOOO'”
President Daniel Cureton said “This is one of the few times we can talk around and people don’t think we are just a bunch of weirdos in costume… right now we are just a bunch of people in costume!”
UUPS can’t wait for next year to attend the final end to the Epic Saga of love, magic, right, wrong and sparkly hats! Till next we meet!

This past Samhain brought the wonderful opportunity for UUPS and USUPA to be together and honor the ancestors! UUPS drove up to Logan on Sunday, October 31, 2010 and joined in the druid celebrations that took place at the UU church in Logan. Around 50 people were in attendance under the moon and light rain. A beautiful altar filled with photos of family members and loved ones with antlers was set behind a fire pit where the honoring took place.

Hi folks,
Soon under the wing of the Goddess, Hecate’s time will come, Samhain, or Halloween. As part of the end of October, we will be doing Pagan Awareness Week the last week. There will be an altar set up at the University of Utah. Awareness and understanding, especially at such a commercial time, while peoples guards on witches and pagans has been let down for all the candy they’ll get on this night, is the best time to make the true meaning of this sacred holiday known. Here is the link to the facebook group so you all can see the events that are upcoming
As part of that week, don’t be afraid to show you’re a god and/or goddess worshiper! We want to educate the community on the real meaning of paganism, so be proud to sport your alternative clothing or jewelry, even if its for an hour! This is part of the goal of Pagan Awareness Week, to get the local pagan’s out of fear and out of the broom closet! I hope to see you all there!

Thanks to all who made the Mabon and full moon rituals a great time in Big Cottonwood Canyon! We prepared the site before and made a circle of stones. Only after we had gathered the stones, did we see the beautiful scrub oak tree hanging inside the circle to the north!
We did a ritual putting out of the fires for the coming months of darkness, sang songs and danced around the fires, all before having a delicious butternut squash soup!
Thanks to all
