Ostara shining face was seen this past Ostara 2014. SLPS held Ostara 2014 on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 6pm. The ritual was done in the New American Tradition by SLPS president Muad’Dib.

With the opening of the ceremony by the LBRP and other rites, the ritual quickly moved to the story of Ostara or Easter. Centering around the Goddess Eostre and her blessing of the bunnies to spread her name, a guided journey to meet the Goddess was performed. Afterward, wildflower seeds were spread in a barren patch of land, to bring new life as spring rolls forward. President Muad’Dib  performed a druid rite of spring to Coel. The cakes and ales included bunny bread rolls made by Rhiannon Watters that were offered up to the Goddess in thanks for the return of Spring, with the song “The Earth is Our Mother” by Libana being chanted in remembrance of our ties and duty to care for the land. The ritual ended peacefully with spring poetry.

The feastings included vegan lentil soup, potato rolls, grilled chicken, spinach and cucumber salad, and enchiladas. With the wine and juice flowing freely, the feastings continued into the night and ended with a few hands of five card poker!

A few members and guests of SLPS gathered last night Friday, March 21, 2014 to prepare the eggs for Ostara 2014. At first the brown eggs appeared to present a challenge of if the dye would stick, but it sure did! Some beautiful eggs are now waiting to be presented to the Goddess and eaten in sacred Ostara egg salad! There was even a black egg! The other plastic eggs hold wildflower seeds read to be sown into the barren Earth in symbol of the returning life of spring time.

And St. Patrick got in the car and drove the snakes to the SLPS full moon ritual! The snakes of Ireland came to the SLPS full moon to honor the Moon Goddess and give a snaky eye to St. Patrick.

On a rare Monday ritual, Monday, March 5, 2014, at 9pm, the altar was decorated with a shamrock tablecloth made by SLPS adviser Woman Between the Wolves, and seated on the sides of the Goddess were live shamrock plants. Other attributes adorned it such a post of gold and corned beef and cabbage.

The members of SLPS were cleansed, charged, and worked magic by the full moon. Thanks in the form of green macaroons were given to the Goddess for her continual blessings as Indian temple incense wafted about the room. St. Patrick descended to watch as SLPS celebrated their ancestral kin, the druids. Truly a great blessing this St. Patrick’s Day!

Thanks to everyone who came and participated in the Imbolc ceremony on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Dancing Cranes Imports at 6pm. SLPS helped kick off the 2014 Interfaith Month with Imbolc. Lakshmi stood in since Brigid arrived late. The table was decorated with a handmade table cloth by Woman Between the Wolves in the late winter seasonal design. Flowers, cookies, sparkling apple cider, candles and more all decorated the altar. Since the ritual was squeezed into the small time space of an hour, some creative editing was necessary.

After reading Imbolc poetry, there was singing and dancing, cleansing and blessing, all before Brigid appeared. She stepped in for a visit through one of the mediums and gave spiritual advice to everyone through the tarot. Afterwards, everyone came forward to received blessings from her through sacred fire.

The energy was sent out into the universe at the close and the rest was returned to the living Earth.

The members of SLPS had a deeply spiritual time on Saturday, December 28, 2013. AT 8pm the members gathered for the last ritual of the year, the new moon. How auspicious that another new moon phase fell before the onset of 2014, allowing for preparations and goals to be made, habits to be banished to kick start the new year. Ritual cleansing, Singing and chanting, praising of the goddess, and spell work all lead to an intimate and moving circle around the altar of the goddess. Cookies and wine were offered and blessings received from the dark moon goddess.

Afterwards, members playing poker using beans and pennies into the early hours of the weekend. SLPS members look forward to 2014 with hope and strength.

Thanks to all who came and made the Yule Ritual and Feast a brilliant success. On Saturday, December 21, 2013, a few members and guests of SLPS gathered and welcomed back the Yule King from the world of the ancestors. Piggy, playing the Goddess, gave birth to Lunar Oak Spirit as Cernunnos. All knelt and honored the returned Lord. This time of year is when the sun begins his ascent and starts to increase in light, and when the Oak King reigns again till Midsummer. President Muad’Dib performed a druid rite for Yule and after a beautiful poetry reading, gave the cakes and wine offerings to the Oak King and Goddess and asked blessing for the new year as the light returns.

The feasting included rotisserie chicken, green beans and quinoa, potato salad and fruitcake. Check out the photos below!

Thanks to who came to the Samhain ritual and feast on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 6pm. The society began the Samhain by painting pumpkins and rocks for the dead. The rocks were later buried under a tree and the pumpkins put out on display. The crowning piece of this year’s Samhain was a hand painted skull for dia de Los Muertos as the center piece. The ritual was performed in the druid/wiccan style by SLPS president Muad’Dib.

The main rite of the Samhain ritual was Lord Shiva, Hindu God of Death, unlocking the gate of the underworld in Nataraja pose to allow the spirits of the dead to attend their living. After a few moments, they were sent back to the underworld till the next ancestral working. Cernunnos had gone before to prepare the dead for the visitation as it was he who died that day, to be reborn again at Yule. Cerridwen of the druids was seen during the druid Samhain rite. The offerings were home made pumpkin bread and Bloody Mary’s in the frog cauldron. Medusa burned away all the worries and problems of the people (played by Piggy). It came to a close with the blessings of Samhain being given by Lady Hecate.

The feasting included home made pumpkin bread, green beans, buckwheat and mummy chicken (wrapped in bacon). After the feast, everyone rested by a Samhain fire, lit for the ancestors and enjoyed eggnog and brandy.

Saturday, September 21, 2013 brought the Fall Equinox known and Alban Elued or Mabon. After a bit of an unorthodox start, the ritual got rolling at 10pm (instead of the usual 6).  The ritual kicked off with the usual cleansing and spheres of protection. President Muad’Dib performed the druid opening rites and led everyone into the celebration of light and dark. The Hermit came knocking to the temple doors  holding the light of life. He spoke to everyone, announcing himself as the guide of souls before passing his lantern to Ra who said his goodbyes from the light time of year and finally onto Cernunnos who takes over at this time. Cernunnos spoke of his support and love for each person, how they should not be afraid to push forward into the dark times and look into the soul. He blessed everyone and promised to walk the journey with them.

Mabon magic was worked with everyone burning away a problem in their lives in the Cauldron Awen. Esus danced in the circle as part of the druid rite of Alban Elued performed by president Muad’Dib. Ganesh stopped by as part of the Chaturthi celebrations to have a piece of pie and hear the Mabon poetry read, and with that, the ritual closed till next fall and the feasting of ribs and pickled mushrooms began. A heathen symbol performed with the traditional drinking horned being passed as cheers to the deities went up into the air late into the night.

What a fun day out after Sunday morning tea! A few SLPS members headed to Big Cottonwood Canyon to gather magical plants and items on Sunday, September 15, 2013. River rocks, white sage, wild rose and granite were on the list and after several hours of hunting and gathering, they were successful! Each September brings the opportunity to gather the last of the summer plants and the pre-fall blooms. With the river being almost too cold to wade through, any time post Mabon is just too cold!

Everyone had a great time on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3pm at the Ogden Canyon Hot Springs. This trip brought new moon cleansing energy as well as earth powers that reset, recharged, healed and washed clean those who attended. The springs are set back off the highway and next to the river at the mouth of the canyon. They average about 135 F. “It’s a fresh and cleansing experience to soak in them for a good half hour and then jump in the cold running water and to let all your troubles wash away” said Piggy. Everyone reported sleeping better and more soundly afterwards. “You can’t get any better to the living earth than having her minerals and salts wash over you straight from the source” said SLPS President Muad’Dib.

Thanks to all who came and attended Lughnasadh on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 6pm. The sabbat kicked off with the usual preparations of cleaning the temple site, pine cone, and doggie poo sweeps, and set up. A pre ritual crafting activity took place with several society members making Corn Mothers. At this time of harvest of the grains, corn or maize as it was known in South America, was the sustaining grain for the peoples there. The Corn Mother was believed to be the responsible for production and care of her peoples through providing corn. Since this is a crop Lughnasadh, it was appropriate to make and decorate them to her and to Lugh.

The ritual began with the usual open rites and cleansing rituals. A few special items decorated the altar including a Lughnasadh corn designed table cloth made by Woman Between the Wolves, a corn chalice, a black phallus candle, and the crowning center item a Lugh painting of Lugh lying against a hill side with an erect uncut phallus of acrylic on canvas done by Kurt Shoopman in Kentucky.  Other items included seasonal flowers, branches, penis bread, and the first fruits of the harvest. Lugh and his consort Cernunnos spoke to the guests. Afterwards people enjoyed special cheese and chive penis bread made by Woman Between the Wolves and said what they were grateful for at this time of thanksgiving. President Muad’Dib performed a druid rite to Sul, after which he performed Celtic reels on the violin, honoring Lugh, Cernunnos, and Sul. Other offerings, libations, and blessing were performed by the society members including a blessing of a Ganesh painting and a wood burned Ingvas. Iyata Bond blessed everyone with a Lughnasadh oil made by her for the occasion.

The feasting included an organic blueberry cobbler made by Cheyanne Opheiknes, roasted vegetables and hamburgers. All in all, a wonderful time!

Thanks to all who came and joined in the July 2013 Full Moon ritual on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 8pm. Being such a wonderful evening with a warm breeze, crickets and birds chirping and the setting of the sun in the west behind the Oquirrh Mountains, a small altar was set up outside.  Iyata Bond led the ritual and instructed everyone in the beginnings of the Women’s Mysteries. The ritual was opened with the usual LBRP, Rose Cross and Thor’s Hammer. Blessings from the Moon Goddess on the objects was performed, along with healing and other spell workings. A special scepter dedication was done by President Muad’Dib for his new Medusa scepter. Cakes and Wine were passed around and a special coconut cake was eaten as the late night snack. Next up Lughnasadh!

A select, few, members of the pagan society gathered on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 8pm to perform and work dark moon magic. Starting off with druid breathing exercises and grounding, then moved into the dark moon magic, which included a fire in the portable fire pit on the deck. “It was a perfect night to burn since the ground was damp and there was little chance of spreading fire through the wind,” said Lunar Oak Spirit. After the magical workings, thanks to the moon goddess and the dark lords such as Hades, Shiva and Osiris were presented. Pizza-hut pizza was the midnight snack while the Saturday night film pick was Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the perfect Pagan Movie followup!

Thanks to all who attended and made Midsummer 2013 a wonderful celebration and feast! The celebrations took place on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 6pm and this year included a new Hammer of Thor rite.

The traditional battle between the Oak and Holly kings, with the Holly King victorious and ruling the next six months of the year took place as the center point of the ritual. The Oak King was played by SLSP President Muad’Dib and the Holly King by SLSP Advertising Director Lunar Oak Spirit. They had a mock battle and the Oak King relented control of the year to the Holly King till Yule, when the Sun will return again to increase the light on the Earth.

A druid Midsummer rite by SLPS President Muad’Dib where he called on the blessings of the God Beli, a midsummer Welch fire God, for all the members.

Oberon, King of the fairies was seen blessing the union of the Holly King and Queen. He also worked other faery magic as he danced around the circle!

Part of the magical workings on Midsummer also included power moon magic from the “super moon” that was passing over the Earth at the time. The workings including banishing bad habits in the Midsummer fire, traveling to meet the Holly King with his spouses and dancing to the song “Midsummer” by Heather Alexander.

Feastings after the ritual included tri-tip steak, chicken, hamburgers, ribs, corn on the cob and potato salad. A special homemade chocolate and coconut cream frosting cake was made by SLPS member Cheyanne Opheikens in honor of Lunar Oak Spirit’s late birthday. Delicious! Check out the photos below.

A small group of SLPS members gathered on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 8pm for the June New Moon Ritual. Starting off with the traditional circles that are cast and a new one by Thor’s Hammer, the members felt the power of the magic immediately. After cleansing, anointings and blessings. The new Awen cauldron custom made for Druid President Muad’Dib was broken in at this ritual as well as the new stone mortal and pestle. Cactus, rose and sun flower petals were among the many ground up for the spell workings done.

President Muad’Dib took the members to meet Mjolnir, Thor’s Blessed Hammer. Iyata Bond then took everyone on a guided journey through their heart chakras before closing the ritual. Until the next moon!

Thanks to all the members and guests that came this past Saturday, February 23 2013 at 8pm for the Full Moon Ritual to Aphrodite. Those faithful and dedicated members trekked snow drifts, high winds and low visibility to give thanks to the Goddess of Love for all her blessings, especially in the month of February for Valentine’s Day. After clearing the space, shielding and proclaiming peace in the quarters, the elements, deities and ancestors were invoked to help work the magic of the night.

A special appearance by the Goddess was seen in the kitchen. The appearance was captured on camera by president Muad’Dib and the goddess can be seen with Lunar Oak Spirit as he pours his personal libation. Her reflection from the kitchen is seen in the mirror as she appears to be in saint form!

After the workings, the members enjoyed Jack Wagon Wheat Beer by Shades of Pale Brewing Co. out of Park City. Several hails, offerings and libations later, the gratitude ceremony came to a close with the traditional feasting on maple vanilla bean cookies and grape juice from Trader Joes.

Tarot readings commenced after the ritual, keeping the tradition alive to divine the future on the full moon. See you all next moon!

What a full moon it was! Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 8pm was a very special night. Two guest, Mitchell and Kellan showed up in need of intensive cleansing and magical working. The members of SLPS present were all very capable and able to deal with this type of energy work. Lots of astral travelers, negative spots and more had to be pulled off. Three different types of magic we used, reiki, slavic and shamanic. Afterwards  it was done! This intensive work doesn’t come up that often, but when it doesn’t  it is an example that you must be ready at all times to deal with whatever walks through the door!

Because of all this negative energy, rituals from now on will be invitation only.

Thanks to all who came on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 8pm to the new moon ritual! We had a great time doing new moon magic, discussing upcoming activities and working with the ancestors. President Muad’Dib sported his new oak circlet made from brass. The mediation fire with the song “Shanti” from the album Elephant Power by MC Yogi has really made a difference in the ability for the members to center and release all negativity. The moon goddess accepted the offerings for the new month and blessed everyone to go forward with light and love!

Thanks to all whom came on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 8pm to the full moon ritual. This was the last moon of 2012 and right in the middle of Kwanzaa. The members of SLPS discussed ujamaa or community economics based in the Kwanzaan tradition. After lighting the Kinara everyone partook of the Kikombe Cha Umoja or the communal cup made from coconut~! A few spells were worked and offerings given to the moon goddess before closing. SLPS looks forward to the first moons of 2013!
