Recently, a prospective member came to the society seeking membership. While this person attended meetings and functions, they never formally joined. After a few months, this individual stirred up trouble among some of the more impressionable members, and fooled them into causing a rift in the society. A meeting was held on Friday, May 24, 2013 in the Sugarhouse Park, to discuss the future of the members of the society and work out the issues in a group setting. A special talking stick as purchased for the occasion to ensure that members take turns speaking. Heated opinions, critiques, and passionate feelings were shared. It was decided that the troll would be banned, and several members would be released. Several also chose to leave, leaving the Society fewer in numbers, but also healthier as those who stayed are those who were serious about Work, instead of just socializing.  We wish those who left and were released well in life and that they find other groups in which to participate.

The Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition’s Interfaith Service 2013 was a great success! On Thursday, May 30, 2013 around 400 people attended and filled the Congregation Kol Ami synagogue to the brim, many faiths talked, sung and presented as part of their support on the healing and love in the LGBTQA Community. This year’s theme, Sacred Embraces Real, emphasized the divine withing all of us and how we can connect with deity again. SLPS read the litany for Who is Pagan and performed the Pagan Ritual of Remembrance for all the loved ones who have passed on.  President Daniel Cureton and Iyata Bond lite seven candles of seven different colors to represent the diversity of people and with each name came the ringing of the great society bell. After the service, Kosher refreshments were served which included brownies and fruit. Below is the program PDF from the service and photos!

The May 2013 Full Moon ritual that was held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 8pm was a special moon ritual. Being an Eclipse moon, an entire cycle of the moon from full-new-full can be seen and felt just in the course of a few hours. After the usual LBRP cleansing and Rose Cross shielding, the quarters were called and deities invoked. When it came time to call in the Goddess and God, more than the usual ones asked to be present. Our beloved Moon Goddess Diana along with Quan Yin, Hecate, Medusa and Aphrodite with Ganesh, Lugh, Hanuman and Herne for the Gods.

Some intense cleansing work had to be done on the members. Sage, water, spritzer, smoke and a Slavonic egg cleansing by Sergey Khrushchev. Sergey also took the members on a journey to the Goddess with traditional chants such as “We All Come From the Goddess”, “The Elements”, and “We Are the Flow”. Everyone present felt cleansed, renewed and fulfilled with the full moon.

After only a few months as the secretary of SLPS, Rena Fairbrother has decided to step down as the society secretary. Citing personal family issues and schooling, she recently revealed that she will not be able to perform her duties and has asked for her release. She was let go on May 25, 2013.

Rena did perform her duties well while in the office. Staring on February 12, 2013, she was the person who undertook and completed the society’s calendar project giving us the wonderful 2013 calendars with photos and events. She projected new ideas, ways, and projects at the meetings and was an innovative thinker. SLPS will miss her and wishes her well in life and hopes that she will return in the future to be part of the society again.

Thanks to all whom came to the Beltane celebrations on May 4, 2013 at 6pm. The God and Goddess united in love and spirit in the presence of SLPS members. The celebrations began with dancing, singing and drum beating welcome the wedding party to the circle. Sergey Khrushchev played the God and Callista Dreamwalker the Goddess.

Each member took turns reading Beltane poetry, giving offerings, and watching the Great Rite performance. The wedding party exited to the throws of rice and treats in honor of their union. After the wedding party exited, a druid Beltane rite calling on Niwalen was performed by SLPS President and druid Daniel Cureton. Niwalen rose from the Earth and blessed everyone.

Personal libations came before the close. Penis rolls and clit cakes were loving homemade by Lauren Holman. Each person enjoyed a taste of the God and Goddess! Feastings included ribs by April Love, Enchiladas by Ashton Longhurst and an organic homemade Green Man spice cake by Cheyanne Opheikens.

Another successful opportunity to let the masses know about SLPS and give spiritual service to students, staff, faculty and people at the University of Utah has been recently completed! On Friday, April 19, 2013 from 10am-2pm, President Daniel Cureton and SLPS member Kandrie Mylorie tabled on the lawn of the Student Union building at the U for the Grand Kerfuffle event.

Produced by ASUU (Associated Students of the University of Utah), the Kerfuffle is an evening concert with various bands, arts, and musicians that perform for the masses of students.

Kandrie Mylorie read her famous Witch’s Runes while President Cureton used his Deviant Moon Tarot. “We had around 50 people stop by in the four hours we were there. We met some really fantastic people” said President Cureton.

Be sure to look for other times and locations that SLPS will be offering free readings and come check it out!

All was a hit at this year’s birthday party for President Muad’Dib who turned 27 on April 12th. The party was held Saturday, April 13, at  7pm. The traditional borsch soup was made by Lunar Oak Spirit, the tradition being now in its 4th year.

With a small group of friends, the people ate, drank, sang and enjoyed each other’s company. When it was time for the cake, the excitement grew over the rumors that it was Woman Between the Wolve’s infamous strawberry cake, with real purred strawberries inside along with a strawberry frosting!

Indeed so! The cake didn’t last long. Buster Boyd can be seen left with a look of glee and pleasure right before he devoured his large slice of the strawberry cake.

President Muad’Dib commented “You should always keep your birthday candles if you can because they make good wishing magic! I love birthdays! No bowling for me, dinner parties are better!”
