Every month brings the renewed opportunity to call down the power of the full moon. This month brought a wonderful time for UUPS members to call on Luna and embrace Lord Ganesh to help them be empowered and overcome difficulties. During the full moon, members Laura and Ryc Pellum dueled over who would get to call on Lord Ganesh to help them in their magic.  All present could feel the helping hand of Lord Ganesh come down from above to overcome difficulties and accomplish their magical rites. The magic was pooled together by the members. UUPS can’t wait till next month to call down Lord Ganesh and work magic rites.

Every couple of months UUPS has the esteemed opportunity to visit its sister group the Utah State University Pagan Alliance.

This trip came around one of the most favored of all holidays for most pagans: Samhain! A time to honor the dead and set goals for the Pagan New Year.

Each year, USUPA puts on a big ritual at the local Unitarian Universalist Church in Logan Utah. Complete with food, fun, wine and ritual, this is the best Samhain North of Salt Lake City!

UUPS got the ritual outline, food for the potluck, robes and staffs and heads north (carpooling of course) to just south of Potato country.

This time, UUPS arrived in mass carrying its share of pagans and food…always a good combination.

Tickets were $5.00 before and $10.00 at the door. The ritual started promptly at 8:00pm. A beautiful circle of leaves, with a portable fire pit and altar in the west was set up outside behind the UU church under a clear night with the moon shining brightly down upon everyone through the leaves of the autumn trees.

Each participant was led to the west gate were they were cleansed and consecrated with sage and water before entering the circle. Making a circle clockwise, the participants lined up in a circle with nearly seventy people squeezing in.

Four helpers stood in the quarters invoking, blessing and dismissing with the elementals. Kassie lead the ritual with a poem reading, raising and dismissing the collective energy in the circle with great efficiency and her big sword, shouting to the Gods, Goddesses and ancestors before falling to the earth. The fire was dimmed and everyone was given a few moments to reflect on life, their dead, and goals to be set for the New Year. At this point, all were given slivers of wood to be thrown into the Samhain fire, signifying a renewal of goals or the setting thereof. Each person said aloud what they desired to do, change or work in their life in the coming year from having a cat to obeying what the Gods and Goddesses tell them.

Many tears flowed as hearts became soft and the participants reflected on their lives.

Afterwards, all were treated to a wonderful feast of stew and other sides that were brought such as swamp muck (guacamole), shriveled heads (backed pears) and love potion no 9. (grape juice with cinnamon and spices). All in all, UUPS can’t wait to go again! Thanks USUPA!

The members of UUPS gathered on November 19, 2011 at 8pm to celebrate the return the dark moon. The ritual began as usual with the welcoming of the dark moon and moved into the drum circle and meditation. There were reports during the drumming of ancestors singing and dancing around the circle.

After the meditations the offerings of wine and cookies were given in gratitude to Luna for another month of blessings, work, solace and guidance in the coming month as she waxes full to the full moon power. Check out the photo below!

UUPS has the wonderful opportunity again to visit and participate with our fellow Pagans at Utah State University. The ritual is set for a nearby canyon in Logan on Saturday, August 6, 2011. We need all of you to post your comments so we can get organized and know who’s going, who can carpool, who would like to volunteer their car for use. UUPS can offer a small reimbursement for gas if necessary. We also ask everyone to chip in on the gas cost because simply… the prices are out of this world (as everyone knows).

Harry Potter! Harry Potter! At least that’s what the members of UUPS were singing on Friday, July 15, 2011 at 11:20pm… the premiere of the 8th and final film Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows II

Megaplex 12 at the Gateway played host to a large number of Harry Potter fans. The crowed was a mix of muggles and wizarding folk. The movie itself was packed full of action, love, death, tragedy and a great story line.

“It was an amazing film. So well done. I was so sad to see it end. I just need to keep telling myself that there are the stories and that I can retell them to kids and find different was of keeping them alive in the future” Said Amber Hafen.

Many tears were shed after the final scene. Young boys and girls, adults, elderly, UUPS members were all wiping their faces. “I was so sad when it ended. I feel like it’s equal to the space shuttle program… an era in human history is over. I grew up with Harry and his friends since I was 13. Now I know how those who were present when Star Wars first Came out, or Star Trek feel. The ending of a great saga which has greatly impacted human history.  I think Harry has done a great service to the

(L to R: April Love, Amber Hafen, Daniel Cureton)           pagan community and how non pagans view the magical community. The HP impact seems to be a positive one.” Said President Daniel Cureton.

Most of the members of UUPS and others are trying their best to have a positive outlook like Amber; finding a way to keep the stories alive. Some have even suggested they might write Harry Potter fan fiction novels

Each month brings the opportunity to work powerful magic and spells under the light of Diana. The moon is at full strength and freely gives her energy and light to those who call upon it.

This month those present worked with money, banishing and cleansing objects. President Muad’Dib drew down the moon on  Friday, July 15, 2011 to perform the magic necessary.

“I always feel so good afterwards. I love coming and participating in these rituals. In these, I feel the true spirituality of my practice. I feel the true craft. I see and understand what others have been talking about for centuries when they talked about the Craft and Magic. I can feel the gods and ancestors. I know they’re helping me and creating positive change in my life.” Said Fire Runner.

Thanks to everyone to attended this year’s Earth and Arbor Day ritual and gratitude ceremony.  This past Friday, April 29, 2011 at 4pm, members of UUPS met at President Muad’Dib’s House to perform a gratitude ceremony and druid tree blessings as part of honoring Gaia and giving thanks for all they have received. Member Sarah Cochran even brought along her Bast Goddess Statue to give praise to the Egypt Queen and lover of Cats! All deities were welcome. After the ceremony, the members walked outside to bless a newly planted apple tree. President Muad’Dib performed the tree blessing from the Ancient Order of Druids in America tree blessing rite. This invoke Nwyfre, the fire of life to come and attend that place where the tree is, give it strength health and life, and drawing the invoking and evoking rays of light from Awen to merge at the center where the new tree was planted. Blessed Holy Water sealed the blessing and the members went back inside for refreshments.
