The planning committee for Salt Lake Pagan Pride met at IHOP on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 10 am to discuss the 2016 festival. Out of ten, three people showed: Debra Hurst, Jen Coates, and SLPS president Daniel Cureton. Much progress was made in the details, including an extensive list was made for vendors, author signing suggestions, $10 tshirts for the festival, logo contest, entertainment selections, and the program layout.
The committee is seeking to grow the festival and make it as inclusive as possible, with not just Pagan vendors, but those who support the community and provide services (like the library and Planned Parenthood). This year’s festival is booked for the northeast quadrant of Liberty Park in downtown Salt Lake City.

The Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition has a new board of faith leaders who will oversee the function of the annual service. After the 2015 Utah Pride Interfaith Coalition Service Russ Gorringe, who had headed the coalition since 2002, stepped down. A steering committee was formed to reorganize. From the committee meeting on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church at 6pm, a new structure was formed to go forward into the future with the coalition.
SLPS trustee April Love attended the meeting, advocating for the board style leadership, which idea was put forward by SLPS president Daniel Cureton at the last interfaith service to Russ and through email to the members before the meeting. The UPIC accepted this proposal and will now be run by a 3 member board, which includes a seat for a non Christian faith. There will be a staggered rotation, with a new seat opening every year of those 3 seats. It will be volunteer roles. The board will still continue to invite all faiths to plan and host the services annually.

SLPS participated in the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable’s interfaith month by hosting an open full moon rite to the Norse Goddess Freyja. Held Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 7-9 at the Sugar Space in downtown Salt Lake, ten people gathered to see and participate in the Wiccan rite. The altar was decorated with bone runes, statues of the deities, flowers, and a drinking horn. A hand burned wooden slab of the rune Ingwas provided the perfect backdrop.
The society opened by invoking the Goddess Freyja and the All-father Odin. The song “Freya” by Kelliana on her album I Walk With the Goddess. The Goddess spoke to all those present and gave them advice for the next month to guide their lives. A rune was pulled for each person to give them further clarity and wisdom through divination.
The offerings were apple juice and cookies, after which sacred items presented to the Goddess were blessed and a question and answer period opened. People asked tradition differences, how Pagans view the world, and thanked SLPS for hosting as part of the interfaith.
