Thanks to all who came and attended Lughnasadh on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 6pm. The sabbat kicked off with the usual preparations of cleaning the temple site, pine cone and doggie poo sweeps, and set up. A pre ritual crafting activity took place with several society members making Corn Mothers.  At this time of harvest of the grains, corn or maize as it was known in South America, was the sustaining grain for the peoples there. The Corn Mother was believed to be the responsible for production and care of her peoples through providing corn. Since this is a crop Lughnasadh, it was appropriate to make and decorate them to her and to Lugh.

The ritual began with the usual open rites and cleansing rituals. A few special items decorated the altar including a Lughnasadh corn designed table cloth made by April Love, a corn chalice, a black phallus candle, and the crowning center item a Lugh painting of Lugh lying against a hill side with an erect uncut phallus of acrylic on canvas done by Kurt Shoopman in Kentucky.  Other items included seasonal flowers, branches, penis bread, and the first fruits of the harvest. Lugh and his consort Cernunnos spoke to the guests. Afterwards people enjoyed special cheese and chive penis bread made by April Love and said what they were grateful for at this time of thanksgiving. President Daniel Cureton performed a druid rite to Sul, after which he performed Celtic reels on the violin, honoring Lugh, Cernunnos, and Sul. Other offerings, libations, and blessing were performed by the society members including a blessing of a Ganesh painting and a wood burned Ingvas. Iyata Bond blessed everyone with a Lughnasadh oil made by her for the occasion.

The feasting included an organic blueberry cobbler made by Cheyanne Opheiknes, roasted vegetables and hamburgers. All in all, a wonderful time!

A select, few, members of the pagan society gathered on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 8pm to perform and work dark moon magic. Starting off with druid breathing exercises and grounding, then moved into the dark moon magic, which included a fire in the portable fire pit on the deck. “It was a perfect night to burn since the ground was damp and there was little chance of spreading fire through the wind” said Sergey Khrushchev. After the magical workings, thanks to the moon goddess and the dark lords such as Hades, Shiva and Osiris were presented. Pizza-hut pizza was the midnight snack while the Saturday night film pick was Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the perfect Pagan Movie followup!

Thanks to all who attended and made Midsummer 2013 a wonderful celebration and feast! The celebrations took place on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 6pm and this year included a new Hammer of Thor rite.

The traditional battle between the Oak and Holly kings, with the Holly King victorious and ruling the next six months of the year took place as the center point of the ritual. The Oak King was played by SLSP President Daniel Cureton and the Holly King by SLSP Advertising Director Sergey Khrushchev. They had a mock battle and the Oak King relented control of the year to the Holly King till Yule, when the Sun will return again to increase the light on the Earth.

A druid Midsummer rite by SLPS President Daniel Cureton where he called on the blessings of the God Beli, a midsummer Welch fire God, for all the members.

Oberon, King of the fairies was seen blessing the union of the Holly King and Queen. He also worked other faery magic as he danced around the circle!

Part of the magical workings on Midsummer also included power moon magic from the “super moon” that was passing over the Earth at the time. The workings including banishing bad habits in the Midsummer fire, traveling to meet the Holly King with his spouses and dancing to the song Midsummer by Heather Alexander.

Feastings after the ritual included tri-tip steak, chicken, hamburgers, ribs, corn on the cob and potato salad. A special homemade chocolate and coconut cream frosting cake was made by SLPS member Cheyanne Opheikens in honor of Sergey Khrushchev’s late birthday. Delicious! Check out the photos below.

A small group of SLPS members gathered on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 8pm for the June New Moon Ritual. Starting off with the traditional circles that are cast and a new one by Thor’s Hammer, the members felt the power of the magic immediately. After cleansing, anointings and blessings. The new Awen cauldron custom made for Druid President Daniel Cureton was broken in at this ritual as well as the new stone mortal and pestle. Cactus, rose and sun flower petals were among the many ground up for the spell workings done.

President Cureton took the members to meet Mjolnir, Thor’s Blessed Hammer. Iyata Bond then took everyone on a guided journey through their heart chakras before closing the ritual. Until the next moon!

The May 2013 Full Moon ritual that was held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 8pm was a special moon ritual. Being an Eclipse moon, an entire cycle of the moon from full-new-full can be seen and felt just in the course of a few hours. After the usual LBRP cleansing and Rose Cross shielding, the quarters were called and deities invoked. When it came time to call in the Goddess and God, more than the usual ones asked to be present. Our beloved Moon Goddess Diana along with Quan Yin, Hecate, Medusa and Aphrodite with Ganesh, Lugh, Hanuman and Herne for the Gods.

Some intense cleansing work had to be done on the members. Sage, water, spritzer, smoke and a Slavonic egg cleansing by Sergey Khrushchev. Sergey also took the members on a journey to the Goddess with traditional chants such as “We All Come From the Goddess”, “The Elements”, and “We Are the Flow”. Everyone present felt cleansed, renewed and fulfilled with the full moon.
